Halo Campaign Evolved Mission 9: 343 Guilty Spark Walkthrough
by Team Respawn· ~10 min read
This is a Legendary co-op walkthrough of Halo Campaign Evolved Mission 9 — 343 Guilty Spark, the swamp crash and Flood first-contact chapter after Assault on the Control Room. Below: opening crash notes, shotgun-and-Flood combat, remake-vs-reskin chatter, and where to grab this mission’s 3 skulls + 1 terminal, with the full video embedded above. Andy and Gus call it one of the better missions so far — short, visually pleasing, and the most fun stretch of the campaign once the Flood show up.
Halo Campaign Evolved Mission 9 setup
- Sixth mission of the remade Halo: Combat Evolved campaign (Mission 9 in full Campaign Evolved release order after the three prequels, The Pillar of Autumn, Halo, Truth and Reconciliation, The Silent Cartographer, and Assault on the Control Room).
- Legendary co-op throughout; full playlist and text walkthroughs live on TeamRespawn.net, with the video also in the Videos database.
- Classic CE structure: swamp crash, quiet Forerunner interior, Flood outbreak, then a backtrack to the surface for evac while 343 Guilty Spark watches.
- Andy and Gus are not running a dedicated skull route on stream — the collectible section below fills in Fog, That’s Just… Wrong, They Come Back, and the Tangent II terminal.
Swamp crash, Vista pistol, and remake talk
The mission opens with a Pelican dump into the swamp. Andy clips a tree on the way down, “breaks the fall on a branch,” and immediately mourns a lost Vista pistol. While they pick their way toward the crashed Covenant dropship, the chat is less about Keyes and more about whether Campaign Evolved still needed to exist a month-plus after launch.
- Crash comedy: tree hit, workman’s-comp joke, RIP Vista pistol — then they are on the ground hunting a replacement.
- They bought early access and are still crawling the campaign slowly. Andy eats the “corporate card” blame for the purchase; Gus is not taking responsibility.
- Industry aside before the Flood: gaming-community negativity, forgotten bombs like Mind’s Eye, Concord, prices going up while quality feels flat — with outliers they actually like (Witcher 3’s free remaster, Zero Company, the Assassin’s Creed remake, Crimson Desert, 007).
- Valve tangent: Deadlock still has not charged a dime and Counter-Strike’s millions of concurrents barely show up on Twitter. Steam Machine sticker shock ($1,000+) gets a hard pass.
- Collectible heads-up: Fog is up the hill near the crashed dropship / huge tree at the start — easy to skip if you follow the objective marker into the facility.
- Flavor line they clock: “Have you not heard of a data retention policy, Master Chief?”
Flood first contact and the shotgun stretch
Then the Flood. Andy’s first reaction is “been a long time,” then how different they feel on this engine — combat forms with shields sitting on the Elite body parts, infection forms that need to be finished, and a shotgun that both of them immediately call the star of the mission. They spawn with it for the outbreak, and the tone of the run flips from swamp sightseeing to the most enjoyable combat of the campaign so far.
- Flood combat forms carry Elite-style shields on the host body — they do not remember that read being this obvious in classic CE, even if it was always there.
- Shotgun audio and handling get a strong shout-out. Overshield pickups appear in the swamp-side rooms; take them before packed interiors.
- Infection forms revive combat forms unless you blow the body up — do not treat a downed Flood as done.
- Rocket-launcher Flood are the worst of the pack; ragdolls still look a little awkward when things explode.
- Andy does not remember this many rooms or this many combat forms. The facility gauntlet feels denser than the CE memory.
- Deployable-cover particle effects get a mid-fight nerd-out — you can see individual particles hitting the shield.
- Collectible heads-up: That’s Just… Wrong drops from the panicked Marine who turns on you in the quiet dead-Covenant stretch, before the full outbreak.
- Collectible heads-up: Tangent II is on the backtrack after the Flood reveal — right-hand door between wall symbols, then around the far side of the shotgun-Marine alcove.
- They like this chapter enough to wonder out loud whether The Library will be hell but still fun. That is the highest grade this campaign has gotten in the co-op series.
343 Guilty Spark skulls and terminals
This mission packs 3 skulls and 1 terminal. Andy and Gus mostly play through for combat and story commentary; the locations below fill in the collectible route so you can grab everything in one Legendary pass (order matches a natural playthrough; locations cross-checked against the Push Square skulls & terminals guide).
- Skull — Fog (Well Enough Alone / Rally Point Alpha): From the start, go past the destroyed Pelican to the Covenant dropship crashed into a huge tree. Turn back and go up the hill to the right of the path you just walked. At the top, keep the large tree on your right, climb the small mound past the tree roots, and grab the skull on the dirt.
- Skull — That’s Just… Wrong (Rally Point Bravo): Inside the facility while searching for Keyes, the halls go quiet and fill with dead Covenant. Along the main path you meet a human soldier who turns and shoots you — kill him and he drops the skull.
- Terminal — Tangent II (Rally Point Bravo): After the Flood appear, you backtrack. In a room where the objective marker sends you through a door to the right (between two wall symbols; Covenant come out of it), go in. Dead Marines with shotguns are on your left — instead of pushing forward, turn right and go around to the other side for the terminal.
- Skull — They Come Back (Rally Point Charlie): At the evac holdout, flying Sentinels laser the Flood. Leave the fight, go behind the structure in front of you into the dark forest, and look for a glowing plant. Jump behind the tree next to it, walk the toppled branch, and the skull is on your left on the far side.
Evac, Guilty Spark, and Forerunner lore
Once you are back on the surface, 343 Guilty Spark is overhead talking trash while Sentinels help hold the LZ. Andy and Gus call the mission short, visually strong, and one of the better levels in this remake — then immediately argue about why the Forerunners kept Flood samples at all. The combat is the high point; the remake still does not feel like the Last of Us Part I kind of evolution to them.
- Guilty Spark’s model and attitude get a thumbs-up — he looks sick and is already chirping from above.
- Remake verdict on this chapter: CE has been released enough times (Anniversary, MCC, now Campaign Evolved) that they wanted an evolution. Last of Us Part I felt like one; this still reads closer to a reskin with combat and presentation upgrades.
- Lore gripe: if the rings exist because the universe cannot survive the Flood, why archive Flood samples? Their working theory is Forerunner preservationist / “everything should live” dogma colliding with the Halo Array.
- Continuity muddle they never resolve: original “humans are Forerunners” intent, later retcons, Prometheans, Halo 2 cut content of a Forerunner sarcophagus that was a human, and whatever the Endless are supposed to be.
- Collectible heads-up: They Come Back is behind the evac structure in the dark forest — flashlight on, glowing plant, fallen tree branch.
- Mid-run plug: if you think someone is cheating in Halo Wars 2, look them up on Halo Wars 2 stats rather than arguing in Discord bios.
- Mission ends at Pelican evac — playlist nudge for the remaining Campaign Evolved chapters (The Library is next) is their usual closer.
343 Guilty Spark walkthrough takeaways
343 Guilty Spark is the Flood turning point: swamp crash, quiet facility, outbreak, then a backtrack to Sentinels and Spark at the LZ. Andy and Gus call it one of the better — and shorter — missions in this Legendary co-op run, with shotgun gunfeel, Flood shields, and swamp lighting doing the heavy lifting. Main caveats from this run: it still does not feel like a full evolution next to something like Last of Us Part I, Flood density and room count feel higher than classic CE, and infection forms will restitch bodies if you do not finish them. Collectible route is Fog on the opening hill by the crashed dropship, That’s Just… Wrong from the panicked Marine, Tangent II in the symbol-door shotgun alcove on the way out, then They Come Back on the fallen tree behind the evac structure. Overall this is the chapter where the remake’s combat finally clicks for them — they just still want The Library to prove the second half is worth the wait.
FAQ: Halo Campaign Evolved 343 Guilty Spark
Which mission is 343 Guilty Spark in Campaign Evolved?
343 Guilty Spark is Mission 9 in the full Halo Campaign Evolved release order — after the three prequels, The Pillar of Autumn, Halo, Truth and Reconciliation, The Silent Cartographer, and Assault on the Control Room — and the sixth mission of the remade Halo: Combat Evolved campaign.
How many skulls and terminals are in 343 Guilty Spark?
Three skulls (Fog, That’s Just… Wrong, They Come Back) and one terminal (Tangent II). Fog is on the hill by the crashed dropship at the start; That’s Just… Wrong drops from the panicked Marine; Tangent II is in the symbol-door shotgun room on the Flood backtrack; They Come Back is on the fallen tree behind the evac structure.
Where is the Fog skull?
At Rally Point Alpha / Well Enough Alone, pass the destroyed Pelican to the Covenant dropship in the huge tree, turn back, and climb the hill to the right of the path you came from. Keep the large tree on your right, go past the roots, and the skull is on a small dirt mound at the top.
Where is the That’s Just… Wrong skull?
At Rally Point Bravo, while you are still searching for Keyes and the facility is full of dead Covenant, a Marine on the main path turns and fires on you. Kill him and he drops the skull.
Is 343 Guilty Spark a short mission?
Relative to Assault on the Control Room, yes — Andy and Gus call this one of the shorter, tighter chapters, and their Legendary co-op video clocks in around 23 minutes. The Flood interiors still pack more rooms than they remembered, but the swamp-to-evac loop is much tighter than the Scorpion / Banshee control-room push.
