Halo Campaign Evolved Mission 5: Halo Walkthrough
by Team Respawn· ~9 min read
This is a Legendary co-op walkthrough of Halo Campaign Evolved Mission 5 — Halo, the ring-arrival mission after The Pillar of Autumn. Below: opening scenery and Remake talk, Warthog and three-objective valley tips, gunfeel notes vs Infinite, and where to grab this mission’s 3 skulls + 1 terminal, with the full video embedded above. Andy and Gus are not running a dedicated skull route on stream — the collectible section below fills that gap for a full Legendary pass.
Halo Campaign Evolved Mission 5 setup
- Second mission of the remade Halo: Combat Evolved campaign (Mission 5 in full Campaign Evolved release order after the three prequels).
- Legendary co-op throughout; full playlist and text walkthroughs live on TeamRespawn.net.
- Follows The Pillar of Autumn — lifeboat crash onto Installation 04, then secure the crash site and surviving Marines.
- Long outdoor mission with drawn-out Covenant waves — classic CE pacing after the denser prequel ships.
- Customization aside: Andy shows an exosuit-style outfit that reads like Johnson’s Halo Wars gear / early Mark I vibes (they joke Cyclops energy).
Ring arrival and remake talk
The mission opens on the ring with scenery they call “real real good.” While dodging early bogeys and grabbing a Magnum, Andy and Gus circle back to why Campaign Evolved matters for Halo: remakes on a modern engine introduce the iconic campaign to players who never stuck with MCC, and they give the studio runway to figure out the next original game.
- They contrast this rebuild with CE Anniversary — Anniversary was mostly a graphics pass; Campaign Evolved changes more (gunfeel, presentation, co-op features).
- Pace shift from the prequels is obvious: longer waves, outdoor Warthog stretches, and that “old school Halo” mission length.
- Magnum pull-out racking animation draws Twitter heat (chambered round while empty) — Andy notes Chief has been “jamming the gun” for decades, but the empty-chamber visual still looks wrong.
- Bridge-puzzle stretch and lifeboat beacon beats land as the familiar CE structure, just prettier.
Warthog sections, gunfeel, and Legendary pain
Once the hog shows up, the mission becomes vehicle-forward rescue work — drive, turret, save Marines, rinse. Gunplay still gets strong praise; Andy says it feels more like Halo than Infinite from a weapons perspective, particle effects stay a highlight, and Jackal shield reflections on metal get a visual shout-out.
- Warthog still has the pull-out rear seat behind the turret from Pillar — Andy and Gus hop in and ride it for fun mid-run.
- Co-op teleport quirks entertain: when one player peels off or boards a Pelican, the other can get yanked across the map with a casual “you have a good day.”
- Legendary Elites soak damage; Jackal snipers and Spirit dropships shred Marine rescue attempts — they fail more than one hostage objective and joke that saving lives is a secondary goal.
- Ammo and precision weapons feel scarce compared to the prequels (no Battle Rifle in classic CE kit — they miss it here).
- Three-objective valley structure still plays any-order — Andy appreciated that freedom as a kid, even while calling some middle stretches candidly boring as 25-year-old design showing through.
Halo skulls and terminals
This mission packs 3 skulls and 1 terminal. Andy and Gus mostly play through for combat and story commentary; the locations below fill in the collectible route so you can grab everything in one Legendary pass (order matches a natural playthrough; locations cross-checked against the Push Square terminals & skulls guide).
- Terminal — Forgotten (Flawless Cowboy / Rally Point Alpha): While driving the Warthog through the underground tunnels, watch for an open window on your right as you head down. Look over the edge to a ledge below, drop down, and activate the terminal.
- Skull — Give & Take (Reunion Tour / Rally Point Charlie): After the underground stretch, you enter the valley where the objective splits into three. Drive along the right side of the starting area; left of the rightmost objective marker is a river. Follow it upstream into a cave. Near the green flies in the air, search the rock — the skull floats in mid-air.
- Skull — Grunt Funeral (Reunion Tour / Rally Point Charlie): In the three-objective valley, take the left objective (the underground one). At ground level on the main structure in the centre, jump onto the diagonal ramps by the blue light and grenade-jump across to the far side for the skull. If the jump is too nasty, unlock Arcophobia later in The Silent Cartographer, activate it, and reload this mission for an easier hop.
- Skull — Floor Is Lava (Reunion Tour / Rally Point Charlie): Still in the three-objective valley, go to the right objective with the rocky platforms. From the back of the area, climb the rocks and work toward the ones on the right — the skull sits on a rock below you.
Crash site close and franchise asides
- Mission wraps once the Pillar of Autumn crash site is secured — good news Captain Keyes is alive; bad news the Covenant captured the surviving command team.
- They flag The Library as a future pain point on Legendary (Flood “popcorn” density) after hearing similar music cues mid-mission.
- Future remake talk continues: Halo 1–4 cadence, whether multiplayer should ship async from campaign, and Infinite multiplayer still being fun but sparsely populated.
- Mitch Blitz gets a shout-out for original Halo content and trick-shot / “accurate Chief” videos — then they immediately nearly soft-lock a Pelican drop by standing under it.
Halo walkthrough takeaways
Halo is the long outdoor chapter everyone remembers — Warthogs, three any-order objectives, and Marine rescues that Legendary will gleefully sabotage. Presentation and gunfeel keep selling the Unreal rebuild (especially particles and Jackal shield light), while the middle valley still feels like quarter-century-old CE design under a new coat of paint. Collectible route is front-loaded in the tunnels (Forgotten), then clustered in the three-way valley (Give & Take upstream in the cave, Grunt Funeral grenade-jump on the left structure, Floor Is Lava on the right rocks). Main caveats from this run: no dedicated skull hunt on stream, Marine escorts are brutal, precision ammo runs dry, and Grunt Funeral’s jump is the easy miss without a grenade hop or Arcophobia. Overall, Andy and Gus still call the remake good for Halo — and they are happy to be rolling across the ring.
FAQ: Halo Campaign Evolved Halo
Which mission is Halo in Campaign Evolved?
Halo is Mission 5 in the full Halo Campaign Evolved release order — after the three prequel missions and The Pillar of Autumn — and the second mission of the remade Halo: Combat Evolved campaign.
How many skulls and terminals are in Halo?
Three skulls (Give & Take, Grunt Funeral, Floor Is Lava) and one terminal (Forgotten). Forgotten is on a ledge below a tunnel window during the Warthog drive; the three skulls all sit in the Reunion Tour valley after the underground section.
Where is the Grunt Funeral skull?
At the left objective in the three-way valley (the underground objective). Stay at ground level on the centre structure, jump the diagonal ramps by the blue light, and grenade-jump to the far side. Arcophobia from a later mission can make the jump easier if you reload Halo with that skull on.
Is this mission longer than the prequels?
Yes. Andy and Gus call out the drawn-out wave fights and overall length — the outdoor CE structure (Warthog + multi-objective valley) is a clear pace change from the denser prequel ship missions.
Do you have to complete the three valley objectives in order?
No. Like classic CE, you can approach the three objectives in any order once you enter the valley — useful if you are routing skulls (Give & Take near the right side / river cave first, then left for Grunt Funeral, right rocks for Floor Is Lava).
